Top quality steers and heifers sold to a firmer market at Tuesday's Roma store sale, with one third of the yarding drawn from north west Queensland.
Peter Daniel, Grant Daniel and Long, Dalby, said the market had made up good ground on previous weeks due to the support of southern interstate buyers and feedlotters.
He said he secured a line of backgrounding steers for a St George district client.
"These clients are having a good season and I bought Brahman crossbred steers with an average weight of 330kg for up to 350c/kg," he said.
Mr Daniel said he also filled orders in the 100-day feeder market for clients.
"I paid up to 336c for for 400kg plus steers, and to 310c for heifers in the same specification.
He said southern restockers were active on the better bred weaner heifers and had to pay up to 380c.
Many clients who sold heavy feeder cattle for high prices in February and March were now taking the opportunity to restock younger cattle at even money.
Cyril Close, TopX Roma, said the competition of feeder steers was between 10 to 20c above the grid.
He said the market was driven by producers who are buying to trade cattle to get a short term cash flow.
Mr Close said that all cows offered were being sold for slaughter.
"We are not seeing younger PTIC heifers or cows in the market as producers are retaining these in their herd."
