The Talana Limousins bull sale set an Australian breed record average of $10,354 as central Queensland cattlemen bought up big at the Ag-Grow selling complex in Emerald on Thursday.
A total of 24 bulls sold from the 24 offered, with the sale topping at $20,000.
Talana Poll Polo (P), a French Pure bull sired by Talana Poll Hannibal (P) (PU) made the top price, selling to Lawrence and Pat Hack, from Rocklea, Alpha.
The 28-month-old bull weighed 944kg and had a scrotal circumference of 39cm, with an eye muscle area of 155 square centimetres, P8 and rib fat measurements of 10mm and 8mm respectively and IMF of 4.4 per cent.
The Hacks also purchased Talana Poll Pablo (P) (PU) for $16,000, a 30-month-old that weighed 944kg.
Mr Hack said the temperament of the bulls was ideal and said they were growthy bulls for their age.
The Hack family are based in the Alpha district and have been crossbreeding for over 60 years.
They will put their bulls over Limousin/Charolais-cross cows.
First time buyers at the Talana Limousin sale were Greg and Lee-Ann Boyd, Springdale Land and Cattle Co, Aramac, who purchased a total of five bulls to average $12,300.
Among them was equal second-top price bull Talana Poll Payne (P) (PU), which they secured for $16,000.
The 30-month-old Payne weighed 1015kg, had a scrotal circumference of 41cm, with EMA of 148sq cm, P8 and rib fat measurements of 9mm and 7mm respectively and IMF of 4.7pc.
Mr Boyd runs a couple of thousand Brahman/Droughtmaster breeders and said he liked the good conformation, length and good EBV, which he said was a plus.
Mr Boyd was also impressed with the temperament of the bulls.
DKM Pastoral, Athol, Blackall, purchased the third equal second-top price bull Talana Payday (PU), a 24-month-old sired by Summit Payday H28.
Another new buyer at the sale was Cedar Creek Grazing Company, Kabra, who purchased six bulls to average $9083.
Walara Cattle Co, Walara, Blackwater, purchased four bulls to average $7500.
Auctioneer Randal Spann, Elders, Biloela, said Gary and Anthony Graham had repeat buyers who continued to purchase year in, year out, so it was clear their bulls were doing the job they were bought to do.
"They had as good a run of Limo bulls that you can put together, tremendous soft bulls, long bulls and the temperament was unbelievable and they are a credit to the breeders," Mr Spann said.
Gary Graham said he was over the moon with the success of the sale this year, and said it was good to see the sale growing in bid card numbers.
He said 20 bidders had registered this year compared to seven last year, and their hard work was paying off.
"We get great support from the central Queensland cattlemen and we had support from Jandowae, Bell, Springsure, Alpha, Clermont and Moura," Mr Graham said.
