THIS is now the third liftout we have produced in the last 18 months, and it gives me great pleasure to showcase the great influence Simmental breed can have on the beef industry, now and into the future.
The great stories of the breed's successes and industry-focused frontrunners further illustrate the growth that the Simmental breed is on.
It's no lie that the past 18 months have been unpredictable.
Thankfully the season has turned for the better at this point in time, and while in most parts the COVID-19 pandemic is still a problem, it looks to be under control now for now.
On the plus side we have never seen the beef industry at its current record highs.
We have consistently seen Simmental mentioned in a record prices with industry leading maternal traits, with the leading producers sourcing Simmental infused animals, with extra fat cover and marble score is a common theme in feedback from the processors, who are aksing when they can get the next draft. This is thanks to our members in producing and continually improving product moving forward.
I would like to encourage my fellow breeders to keep getting out and about to further benchmark their operations in the way in which others can complement your herd and keep this great breed moving forward. Simmentals are leading the way, as the first choice for producers looking to crossbreed.
I believe we are on the edge of a breeding revolution in which crossbreeding will become widespread, with the large scale purebred commercial operations to become boutique into the future as kilograms of beef per cow area will become the industry focus, rather than specific breeds.
Hence the ASBA board's decision to explore the IGS multi-breed data evaluation, which is an exciting new development for the progressive commercial producer that will allow them to evaluate data from a range of breeders, and find the right bull to suit their operation, across multiple breeds.
It will enable traditional Simmentals to be ranked separately as their own group, as most producers are looking to see where a bull ranks against the black or traditional Simmentals.
Even if it is not the final decision for ASBA board, what has been learnt and developed in this process has been invaluable in the continues improvements policy of ASBA. We feel this is a positive step for the entire Australian cattle industry.
