BEEF producers in the Ballarat district and beyond are utilising the local BetterBeef group to help improve decision making within their own businesses.
Local farmer John Fish, speaking at the recent Ballarat cattle store sale at the Central Victoria Livestock Exchange late last month, said the group had a diverse membership.
"We've got a wide range of people involved in cattle farming from smaller operators to those with a larger number of animals," Mr Fish, who farms at Mt Wallace, south of Ballan, said.
He said Agriculture Victoria helped coordinate sessions, which are held every couple of months.
The sessions, which usually last around five hours, can be on a range of topics ranging from grazing and pasture management through animal nutrition to breeding and genetics.
"We're always on the look-out for new members, so people who are interested can get hold of Neil James at Agriculture Victoria in Ballarat," Mr Fish said.
"Our members find it very useful, they get to chat about a range of topics they are interested in and the small group sizes mean everyone can get something out of the sessions."
The Ballarat BetterBeef group is one of 21 BetterBeef groups across the state, with locations ranging from far western Victoria to East Gippsland and up into the High Country of the north-east.
