A South Australian dairy conference, scheduled for Wednesday, has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19.

DairySA had already postponed the Innovation Day 2021 due to an earlier COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.

The decision was made on Friday to cancel the event due to the increased risk and current border restrictions in place as a result of the current COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.

It is the second major dairy conference cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak with the United Dairyfarmers of Victoria conference scheduled for Friday also cancelled.

"The DairySA team have not made this decision lightly but have done so with consideration for the majority of our speakers and many of our sponsors located in Victoria," a statement on the organisation's Facebook page said.

Up to 200 dairy farmers and service providers were expected to have attended the event.

The event was also cancelled in 2020.

It is a blow for DairySA at a time when the South Australian dairy industry is looking forward to one of its best seasons in years.

The conference had been set to tackle issues of genomics, genetic gains, transitional feeding and epigenetics.

AFL legend, media personality and Dairy Industry ambassador Jonathan Brown was to have been a guest speaker at the event.
