On-farm safety for side-by-side operators has taken another step forward thanks to industry-leading technology released by Polaris this week.

Polaris has launched a speed-control and geofencing kit on the Ranger 1000 and Ranger Crew 1000 models that allows users to set a maximum speed limit and geofenced property boundaries.

The kit allows farmers or commercial operators to limit speed due to challenging terrain, ensure operators are riding at an appropriate speed based on their experience and set ride boundaries to slow the machines when entering unsafe or high traffic areas.

Maximum speed limits can be set with passcode access via the new dash system or on the Polaris Ride Command app. Geofenced areas must be set through the app.

Operators will be able to set a speed for inside and outside a geofenced area from 9.7km/h to 88.9km/h in approximately 3.2km/h increments.

Polaris Australia and New Zealand managing director Alan Collins said the company believes it has a duty to promote and enable safe riding practices among owners.

"Starting with youth riders, we offer vehicles with industry-leading safety technology to help them build confidence while giving parents and guardians ultimate control and peace-of-mind," Mr Collins said.

"Now, with the speed control and geofencing kit, we can provide the same tools and control to farmers and commercial owners looking for ways to improve safety with their operators."

The speed-control and geofencing accessory kit fits 2020 and 2021 Ranger 1000, Ranger 1000 Premium, Ranger 1000 EPS, Ranger Crew 1000, Ranger Crew 1000 Premium and Ranger Crew 1000 EPS models.

It is available through certified Polaris dealers and can also be bought and installed at the time of purchase.

The app can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play. Operators can then create a Polaris account and add the SSV to a virtual garage.

From here, speed and geofence parameters can be set and shared with the SSV. Up to three geofences can be stored in the app but only one can be enabled at a time.

Maximum speed limits can be set with passcode access via the new dash system or on the Polaris Ride Command app.

Geofences are virtually defined areas; in this case, a speed can be set for inside and outside the area from 9.7km/h to 88.9km/h in approximately 3.2km/h increments.

It will not stop the vehicle, but it will slow to the pre-programmed speed limit, similar to cruise control in a car but managed by the operator.
