Operations at an open-cut coal mine in Central Queensland have been suspended and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating, after a worker was killed in an accident on Sunday.
Police have confirmed a 54-year-old mine worker died at Curragh Coal Mine, north of Blackwater, prior to 12:40am on Sunday morning.
In early 2020, a Goondiwindi man was killed at the same mine, after he was crashed under heavy machinery.
A spokesperson for Coronado Global Resources, which operates the mine, said operations have closed, whilst authorities conduct a a full investigation into the incident.
"A full investigation is being conducted into the accident and Coronado is working with the Queensland police, the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and other authorities," the spokesperson said.
"Coronado offers their deepest sympathies to the family, friends and workmates of the employee.
"The company is focused on supporting its workers at Curragh and counselling services are being made available."
A spokesperson for Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) said inspectors are at the mine site commencing inquiries into the nature and cause of the incident.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner as workplace safety officials investigate the cause of the man's death.
