SPIRITED bidding saw prices at Carricowie 20th annual Poll Merino auction reach a top of $7600.
This was part of a strong start to the sale that saw the first eight lots average $3237.
Following full clearance, buyers moved on to the mini auction where 19 of 20 offered sold to a top of $800.
Carricowie principal Bronte Blyth, Brentwood, said was happy with the results, particularly the complete clearance.
“People are very happy with that they bought and the quality of the line up, which we are happy to hear,” he said.
Mr Blyth said their breeding program had concentrated on body size and wool count.
He described the $7600 ram as “uncomplicated”.
“He was a ram you couldn’t go wrong with,” he said.
The 116-kilogram ram had a Carricowie sire and had measurements of 19.6 miron, 3.3 standard deviation, 16.9 coefficient of variation and 99.1 per cent comfort factor.
Buyer Luke Saegenschnitter, Truro, said the ram was “pretty much the total package”.
“He had size, a big square body and beautiful wool; he’s pretty much got it all,” he said.
The sale was conducted by Landmark with Leo Redden taking bids.
