IT was a heavyweight purebred Limousin from Queensland that took top honours in the led steer ring at this year's Casino Beef Week on Saturday but local cattlemen and women still dominated the top end of classes and reigned supreme in the stud ring.
Michael and Toni Dwan's "Elwanvale" at Allora picked up Champion Led Steer, while the Bulmer family's renowned Leeville Brangus Stud Weona collected Supreme Stud Exhibit via the bull Weona Cruz, led by Lachlan Trustum.
Thousands turned out for prestigious cattle competitions and to see cattle lead the grand parade through the town's main streets.
From woodchops to busking, milking competitions to a cow pat lotto, art shows to boning and meat tasting displays, Casino has been a hive of activity over the past week for its annual ten-day Beef Week festival.
Beef Week president Stuart George said it was potentially a record crowd on Saturday.
"The support we've had this year has been phenomenal," he said.
Tomorrow, an extensive line-up of speakers is set for the industry day, speaking about keeping the region's beef producers at the cutting edge of the game.
