SA HEALTH is encouraging community groups, non-government organisations and businesses to apply for grants to deliver activities that support suicide prevention with just a few days left until the application process closes.
Mental Health Minister Jack Snelling said a total of $150,000 was available under the Suicide Prevention Community Grants Scheme for groups to run projects or activities that support the South Australian Suicide Prevention Strategy.
"Suicide is heartbreaking and complex, and impacts families, friends and entire communities," Mr Snelling said.
"It is important communities work together to ensure people know that help is available, where they can get that help and what to do if someone they know is at risk."
SA Health Chief Psychiatrist, Dr Aaron Groves said there was a range of work already happening across SA to raise awareness and prevent suicide.
The activities supported through the scheme will further support this critical community issue.
"The Grants Scheme is open to community groups, schools, sporting clubs, businesses, non-government organisations, suicide prevention networks, local councils, churches and service clubs," Dr Groves said.
"Some groups may want to hold a suicide prevention event or provide suicide prevention support or training within their communities.
"Groups already supporting vulnerable people may want to include critical messages and activities around suicide prevention in their ongoing programs.
"I encourage all South Australians to consider how they can help raise awareness, prevent suicide and reduce the devastating impact it has in our communities."
Groups have until May 29 to apply for the grant and their proposed activity or project will conclude by June 30, 2016.
