YOUNG Show Society is celebrating its joint win of the 2015 Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of NSW foundation community kitchen grant, courtesy of Masters Home Improvement.
Out of 90 applicants, Young and Bingara show societies were successful in being granted the kitchens worth more than $30,000 each.
Last November the Young Show- ground pavilion suffered damage when it was subjected to an arson attack.
The result of the malicious act was the complete destruction of the kitchen, which was placed within the historic pavilion, and had been built with locally raised funds.
Many weddings and functions have since had to be cancelled due to the fire destroying such a vital part of the building.
Young Showground Trust chairman and show society member Bill Daly said the trust and showground secretary Patricia Fletcher put in the application together for the new kitchen.
Mr Daly received the kitchen from the RAS at this year's Sydney Royal Show on behalf of the show committee.
"We are absolutely ecstatic to have won the kitchen," he said.
"We not only lost our kitchen (in the fire) but trophies and memorabilia along with it.
"We are just so lucky to have won this magnificent kitchen.
"The kitchen is very much a focal point of the showgrounds."
The original kitchen had been built after funds were raised by The Ladies Auxiliary in the early 1980s.
Mr Daly said he looked forward to getting the new kitchen installed and built in time for the local spring show.
"But firstly we will hold a function to reopen the new kitchen and area, with the RAS officially opening the event in early spring.
"There are bookings in place already for when the new one is rebuilt."
RAS Foundation executive officer Kate Ross said the standard and range of projects in the grant applications this year were impressive, giving the judges a challenging task.
However, it was the applications submitted by Patricia Fletcher on behalf of the Young Show Society, and Robyn Phillips on behalf of Bingara Show Society, that caught the judging panel's eye.
"The Young Showground recently had a pavilion destroyed by arson, and in the fire they lost the kitchen they had fundraised for many years to put in," she said.
"The community was devastated by the loss of this important community asset.
"In country areas, the showground is often the focal point of the region and is vital for attracting events and visitors.
"The community kitchen, courtesy of Masters Home Improvement, will make a huge difference to both of these regional communities - it will breathe new life into their important showground facilities, ensuring they can be used as multipurpose buildings year round by a number of sporting and community organisations."
In the coming fortnight the demolition of the fire affected area will take place, and building will commence soon after.
