THE McLaren Family’s Nerstane stud, Walcha, made a clean sweep of the Merino Pairs competition in the Merino groups section of the 2015 Sydney Royal Show and then backed up to take out the coveted Stonehaven Cup award for a group of three rams and two ewes.
First win of the day was in the National Merino Pair of a ram and a ewe, August shorn, which they won for the first time from 22 pairs with a full embryo transfer brother and sister of fine/medium wool sired by one Nerstane’s most outstanding home-bred sires, Nerstane 121.
The pair will now represent NSW in the national final later this year at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo, Victoria.
Nerstane then won the full-wool March-shorn RAS Merino Pair from nine other pairs.
Both sheep i the stud's pair were sired by Langdene stud sires.
The McLarens have won this award once before.
In the 80th event, of which 40 have been associated with the Sydney Royal, Nerstane won the Stonehaven Cup from five teams.
Langdene stud took out the Bruce Merriman Memorial Trophy with a team of five sheep growing August-shorn wool.
the Otway Falkiner Cup for five Poll Merinos was won for the first time by CoddingtonUardry stud of Graham and Sue Coddington, Wellington.
