DUNEDOO wool producer Mick Inder, Wattle Grove Partnership, was named overall winner at the Coopers Animal Health Chris Naake Memorial Flock Ewe Competition for the fourth consecutive time.
Mr Inder entered a mob of two-tooth Merino ewes in the medium/strong wool section of the competition, which he placed first in before being named overall winner.
The Langdene-blood flock averaged 18.5-micron and cut an average of 7.5 kilograms when shorn in May.
The flock was culled at a rate of 33 per cent by classer Garry Cox, Langdene stud, Dunedoo.
The competition featured 13 producers from Mudgee and surrounding districts, which were split in to two categories, a superfine/fine wool and medium/strong wool section.
Coming second in the medium/strong wool category was Peter and Tina Doherty, "Roine", Goolma who entered Trynow-blood ewes.
The Doherty's flock average 18.6-micron and cut an average of just under 6kg a head at June shearing.
In the superfine/fine wool category, Tony and Winsome Price, "Boiga View", Pyramul placed first with their two-tooth, 16.8-micron flock.
The Price's have been on Merryville-blood for the last 44 years, with son Ben Price culling 30 per cent each year.
Mr Wells said it was a "nice, even mob" while Mr Merriman thought it could have done with a bit more culling.
"Just needs those few more taken out to even it right up," Mr Merriman said.
Blackwell Pastoral Company, "Waterview", Ilford, managed by Dick Croake, placed second with a Roseville Park-blood, two tooth flock.
The Blackwell Pastoral flock averaged 18-micron and cut 4.5kg at shearing in May.
"There is a large number of ewes here and they are all productive sheep which will cut a lot of wool," Mr Merriman said. "I can see what you're doing and it's a wonderful building block- you're going in the right direction."
Highly commended awards went to the Dohnerty Brothers, "Klondyke", Goolma for their 19-micron, Allendale-blood flock and John and Jack Webb, Cooyal Pastoral Company, "Cooyal Station", Cooyal for their 16.4-micron, Bocoble-blood ewes.
