CONTINUING market confidence resulted in a steady steer market at Mount Gambier store cattle sale on Friday, with 2357 steers yarded.

Prices for heavy steers, more than 450 kilograms, averaged about $2.20/kg, with strong feedlot competition from Teys Charlton, Thomas Foods International and S Kidman & Co, unpinning the price.
Competition continued for lighter steers and heifers, 280-320kg, with buyers including Corcoran & Parker's David Meehan, Wodonga, Vic, Landmark Kingston's Richard Miller and commission buyer Peter Tuohey, Colbinabbin, Vic, all securing good numbers.
Dismal Swamp, Wandilo, sold 27 Angus steers, weighing 565kg, 18-22 months, to $1175 or $2.07/kg and 35 Angus steers, 531kg, at $1050 or $1.97/kg, both sold to Ray White Melbourne, averaging $1104.
EA Petch sold 15 Angus-cross steers, 448kg, at $900 or $2/kg and 12 Hereford steers, 417kg, at $870 or $2.08/kg to S Kidman & Co.
Teys Australia's David Wollard bought a good run of heavier steers for their Charlton feedlot, Vic, including 18 Granite Ridge-blood Angus steers, 425kg at $970 or $2.28/kg a/c JG&CK Clarke, Kingston; 18 Boonaroo-blood Angus steers, 396kg, weaned 10-17 weeks, at $920 or $2.32/kg and 21 Angus steers, 368kg, at $890 or $2.41/kg a/c TB Megaw, Kongorong; eight, 10-11 months, Angus steers, 388kg, at $860 or $2.21/kg a/c Wattleview and 16 Angus steers, 376kg, at $825 or $2.19/kg a/c Est E Eelin.
Coffey's Lane sold 15 Angus steers, 10-11 months, 359kg, at $840 or $2.34/kg to Teys Charlton and 23 Angus steers 10-11 months, 320kg, at $780 or $2.43/kg to Landmark Kingston, to av $803 over the two pens.
TFI bought steers from 340kg to 400kg-plus including 17 Angus-Hereford steers, 12-14 months, 413kg, at $900 or $2.18/kg a/c Warreanga; 15 Angus steers, 370kg, at $860 or $2.32/kg a/c Harfull & Sons; 15 Nampara-blood Angus steers, 10-11 months, 355kg, at $850 or $2.30/kg a/c Milanda Estate and 11 Angus-Hereford steers, weaned 6-8 weeks, 384kg, at $870 or $2.26/kg a/c IW Brown.
C&A Sealey, sold 15 Boonaroo-blood Angus steers, 325kg, at $800 or $2.46/kg.
Glenora sold 10 Angus steers, 401kg, at $900 or $2.24/kg to TFI and 13 Angus steers, 356kg, at $790 or $2.22/kg to Teys Australia, av $837 over two pens.
Hann Farms sold 21 Angus and Angus-cross steers, 342kg, at $745 or $2.17/kg and 22 Angus and Angus-cross steers, 309kg, at $725 or $2.34/kg, av $734 over two pens.
M James sold 13 Anvil-blood, Angus steers, 345kg, at $830 or $2.40/kg; 13 Anvil-blood, Angus-cross steers, 300kg, at $705 or $2.35/kg and eight Mandayan-blood, Limousin steers, 341kg, at $695 or $2.03/kg, av $750.
Hunter Bros, Kingston, sold a large run of 209 Angus and Murray Grey steers, 295-347kg, at $710-$860 or $2.45-$2.29/kg, av $775.
Regular vendors, D&N Peel, Mount Benson, sold 13 Granite Ridge-blood, Angus steers, 316kg, at $795 or $2.51/kg and 14 Angus-cross steers, 318kg, at $790 or $2.48/kg, av $792.
Benara Pastoral Co sold 88 steers av $739, including 13 Angus-cross steers, 284kg, at $690 or $2.43/kg.
They also sold 10, 10-12 months, Ironbark and Allendale-blood Hereford and Hereford-cross steers, 450kg, at $950 or $2.11/kg and 16, 343kg, at $830 or $2.42/kg.
Landmark Kingston's Richard Miller bought about 425 steers and heifers, including 22 PCAS accredited Pathfinder-blood Angus and Angus-cross steers March/April drop, October weaned, a/c N Vorwerk at $705; 16 Te Mania-blood Angus steers, 315kg, at $750 or $2.38/kg a/c AB&RM Virgo; 23 Angus steers, 290kg, at $675 or $2.32/kg a/c NT,M&D Bull, Dartmoor, Vic. Three B-double loads of cattle were destined for the Broken Hill area and one B-double load to Crystal Brook.
A complete herd dispersal of 81 young Angus-Hereford steer calves a/c Churinga Park, Glenroy, sold to $615, av $580.
Highbury Trading sold 112 Weeran-blood Angus steers to $645, av $601.
A large yarding of 1595 heifers were sold, best Angus heifers being $20-$40 dearer with lighter Angus heifers firm to $20-$40 dearer.
Heavier Hereford heifers were firm in price with lighter weights easing.
JG&CK Clarke, Kingston, sold 16 Granite Ridge-blood Angus heifers, 397kg, at $910 or $2.29/kg and 13 Granite Ridge-blood Angus heifers,345kg, at $845 or $2.45/kg to Stuart Hann, Nampara, who also bought 16 Angus heifers 10-11 months, 365kg, at $820 or $2.24/kg a/c Wattleview.
