Illawarra cow Wallumlands Sunstorm 8 is the first coloured cow to win International Dairy Week all breeds champion.
Wallumlands Sunstorm 8 is owned by three mates - Glen Gordon, Cohuna, Daniel Bacon, Tennyson and Ben Govett, Dingee. The trio were so impressed when they saw her at last year's IDW that they bought her following the event from Terry Tidcombe, Tatura.
Mr Gordon said having the first coloured cow to top Australia's premier dairy event was sweet, and made all the sweeter by sharing it with his best mates.
Since IDW was established in 1990, the top gong has gone to Holsteins, expect one year it went to a Jersey and now it has gone to an Illawarra.
A panel of six Australian and international judges voted on the top of the six dairy breeds to pick the overall winner; and the votes were close - the Illawarra won by two votes, although organiser Brian Leslie said all judges wanted her to win.
The final day of IDW 2015 made other records - the grand champion Guernsey Florando Sd Koala 7 had topped her breed for four consecutive years (the first time for any breed), and when the grand champion Holstein Elmar Ice Jessica won senior champion Holstein she was ahead of her paddock mates Elmar Goldwyn Jessica 11-ET in reserve and Elmar Goldwyn Jessica 4-ET - which was the first time a family had breed and exhibited the top three in any breed; and they were from the same maternal line.
