RILERA White Suffolks' top price ram scored better than last year at $975 while clearance rates were on par at its on-property auction on Wednesday.
The ram was one of the largest in the catalogue, which included Poll Dorsets, and had Lambplan measurements of 14.66 post weaning weight, -0.89 millimetres fat depth and 1.21mm eye muscle depth.
The Arthurton stud sold 24 of 28 White Suffolks offered for a $659 average. In the Poll Dorset catalogue, 18 of 28 sold for a $452 average.
Arthurton farmer Haydn Polgreen, a Rilera regular, bought the ram topper.
"I liked the shape of his rump and shoulders," he said.
"I've been happy with what these rams produce."
The $555 overall average was down on last year and stud principal David Langford attributed this to the reduced number of buyers late in the selling season.
"I was happy with the sale but a total clearance would have been nice," he said.
Wardle Co and Landmark officiated and Andrew Butler, Andrew Butler Rural Services, was auctioneer.
