TOP shelf Theodore breeding and finishing property Moocoorooba has been sold privately on a bare basis to miner and businessman Jim Gorman.
Moocoorooba covers 12,227-hectares (30,213 acres) and is situated 60klm from Theodore. The property was offered by David, Lois and Scott White. The selling price has not been disclosed.
Mr Gorman has an extensive property portfolio that extends from Nebo in the north to Theodore in the south and west to Springsure. He plans to run breeders on Moocoorooba in order to help service his Moura background finishing properties.
The sale represents the end of an era for the White family in the Theodore district. The Whites are relocating to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where they will continue their interest in the beef industry albeit on a smaller scale.
Moocoorooba has a long history and the White family have been involved in the Camboon district for many years. David and Lois have been an integral part of the Camboon community with David being president of the Camboon Race Club, which later became the Camboon Campdraft, for 30 years only retiring in the last couple of years.
Moocooorooba has always been a family run operation. In the early years, David and Lois did all the mustering together by horse. The children, Amanda and Scott grew up at Moocoorooba and spent much of their time working alongside their parents. Amanda and her husband Andrew and their children now run a cattle operation in western Queensland. Scott works as a solicitor in Brisbane.
Moocoorooba has consistently carried 2470 head of Santa and Santa-cross cattle including breeders, replacement heifers, back grounders and bullocks. David and Lois pride themselves on the quality of the Moocoorooba cattle and will maintain a core herd of breeders on their newly acquired holdings in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
The well balanced property consisted of developed brigalow and softwood scrub country grassed with Gayndah buffel, green panic and soft natural blue grass, cleared broadleaf iron bark and poplar box country grassed with some buffel and soft natural blue grass and timbered narrow leaf ironbark country with blue gum and tea tree along the creeks and grassed with natural grasses and stylos.
The property has 20 dams, seven bores and three wells supplying a comprehensive number of tanks and troughs.
Near new fences subdivided the property into 16 main paddocks, 12 holding paddocks and muster/holding squares around the waters. This is completed by laneway systems leading to the three sets of good quality cattle yards.
Moocoorooba also features very well maintained infrastructure including a new low-set three bedroom homestead. The new homestead overlooks the original homestead complex which includes a three bedroom home. There are also sheds, workshop, and stable complex with yards.
The reminder of the Moocoorooba herd were marketed through Hourn & Bishop Qld predominantly through Auctions Plus. The cattle were well sought after and achieved outstanding results sold to local, Southern Queensland and interstate.
The selling agents were Gary Bishop and John Crerar from Hourn and Bishop Qld in Moura.
