THERE are few agricultural competitions at the show in which Karen Dennis, Koppio, has not been involved.
"I went to my first show when I was probably nine months old. I've shown horses, cattle, dairy cattle sheep, wool and grain at different stages of my life," she said.
Mrs Dennis started entering canola in the grains and oilseeds competitions at the show after she married Mark in 2007, with entries from their Kurraden Partners operation picking up a swag of champion canola and oilseed prizes in the years since.
With Koppio and the surrounding districts ideal for canola production, the Dennis family has developed a friendly rivalry with other canola producers.
"Koppio has always had a very high oil content in canola, and we try and grow a clean canola crop," Mrs Dennis said.
"We're a later-season where we are - whether that plays into it I'm not sure."
Submitting the family's samples for the show has not always gone smoothly.
"One year we had some samples stored in our sheep shed, and Otto, one of our big rams, decided he'd get in where they were stored and ate them," she said.
"Luckily we had other samples put elsewhere so he couldn't get to them all."
