A South Australian bull has made $90,000 to set a new record at the Dubbo Poll Hereford National.
There was a quiet buzz before today's sale about lot 148, Days Calibre G74, from Lachy Day and family’s Days Whiteface at Bordertown, SA, which took grand champion honours in yesterday’s show.
And Calibre lived up to the hype fetching an opening bid of $40,000 and selling for $90,000 in under a minute.
The price breaks the previous Poll Hereford National record of $85,000 set by Allendale National W168 in 2003 – also bred by the Day family.
Days Calibre G74 was knocked down to the Peake family’s Bowen stud at Barraba and David Lyons’ Melville Park stud at Vasey, Victoria.
Underbidder on the bull was Nolaroo stud at Taralga.
Weighing in at 1100 kilograms, Calibre scanned an eye muscle area of 143 square centimetres with rump and rib fat of 22 and 16 millimetres and a scrotal circumference of 47 centimetres.
The bull’s selection index values rate in the top one per cent for Supermarket Index, Grainfed Steer Index and EU Index and the top 5pc for Grassfed Steer Index.
Days Brigadeir G102 – the bull that was reserve in the senior classes to Calibre – made $40,000.
