THE Hughenden Town and Country Club will be staging the annual Rugby-7s competition on July 20 and after the great success of last year’s competition organisers plan to make this year’s event bigger and better.
In their quest to do so they are looking to the North-Western business community for sponsorship of the event.
This Rugby-7s competition attracts young men from around the North-West who played Rugby during their school years and provides them with the opportunity to not only re-engage with the sport but to re-establish friendships that have waned due to distance and work commitments.
Many of these young men now manage properties and businesses in rural communities and it is expected they will jump at the chance for some sport and competition. The committee envisage 12-16 teams will form and compete over the weekend.
The gate takings over the weekend will be used for donations to charity. Last year it went to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Beyond Blue.
Townsville Rugby Union has once again come on board to assist in the running to the competition to ensure spectators will see some quality rugby played.
