MUNGALLI Creek Dairy, local processor of premium dairy products, is continuing its winning streak, having been recognised at this year's Dairy Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) competition with nine new awards to add to their collection.
The Tableland business, a favourite among locals, took home three gold medals and six silver medals for their milk, cream and yoghurts. The DIAA hosts the national competition to look at the technical quality of dairy products, and the local Misty Mountains Jersey milk came up trumps.
"The Misty Mountains Farms Jersey milk range was awarded gold medals for all three milks in their range (full cream, low fat and lactose free)," marketing manager Michelle Bell-Turner said.
"We also received silver medals for the Misty Mountains Jersey dollop cream and Jersey pouring cream. The Mungalli Creek Biodynamic milk and yoghurts also took home silver medals for their full-cream and low-fat milks, and for their raspberry and vanilla yoghurts."
A total of 112 processors from across Australia entered the awards, held in Victoria. Misty Mountains Milk won their gold medals against 25 different milk entries. This winning streak follows on from Misty Mountain Farms' recent win as Queensland's champion milk at the 2012 Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show in Brisbane.
"Receiving recognition at both a State and national level shows that we are consistently delivering a great-tasting product for consumers. As well as being great tasting, Jersey milk has over 20 per cent more calcium, and more vitamins A, B1 and B2 than conventional milk," Mrs Bell-Turner said.
This is the third time that the Misty Mountains full-cream Jersey milk has received a gold medal, having been awarded gold medals previously in the 2011 and 2012 Royal Queensland Shows.
This brings the total tally of medals that Mungalli Creek has won this year to 24 great recognition of the quality of products from the local area.
Owner/CEO Robert Watson said it was a great morale booster to both the staff and the farmers to win these awards.
"The Jersey cows in the Misty Mountain Farms herds give the milk a rich, creamy flavour which we maintain by treating it as gently as possible," he said. "Because the milk is neither standardised nor homogenised, it tastes as milk should taste."
Mungalli Creek Dairy is a local on-farm processor of premium quality dairy products based in Millaa Millaa, supporting six local family farms and employing 10pc of the local population.
