THE Rockhampton district property Rookwood remains on the market for private sale. The large Central Queensland holding was offered for auction on December 20. Having been passed in, subsequent negotiations have failed to secure a result.
Vendors are keen to sell the property and it is currently well grassed.
Rookwood is 8600 hectares (21,250 acres) and is situated a 100km north-west of Rockhampton. Rookwood is a great balance of brigalow, belah and ooline scrub country, soft alluvial soils off Paddy's Creek and associated watercourses and open forest country that is mainly beefwood, broadleaf, iron bark and broken scrub.
Water is a feature of the property, with dams and bores supplying an extensive reticulation system via four pipeline schemes. There are seven large dams, with Paradise Dam being 35,000cu m.
There is a large set of solid timber cattle yards in good condition which feature a concrete plunge dip, air squeeze crush, scales and an earth-filled loading ramp.
There is a comfortable highset homestead in an established garden setting, and a lowset cottage adjacent to the main homestead.
There are also numerous station sheds, a fuel shed, hay shed and stables including tack room.
Hourn and Bishop Qld property consultant John Crerar said it was rare to find a property of this size and quality so close to a major centre like Rockhampton.
The property has carried 3000 backgrounders over the last five years, but is also suited to breeding and finishing.
