Ayr Charolais stud provided a consistent article at their 2016 on-property bull sale today with interstate buyers suggesting the quality selection made travelling extensive distances worthwhile.
Ayr stud principles were proud to achieve a clearance rate of 100 per cent with an average price of $6415 and a sale gross of $603,000.
Matthew, Lisa and Damien Vinicombe, Rockdale, Eurongilly, NSW, purchased Ayr Egypt’s Gypsland 2nd for a sale topping price of $24,000.
The 814kg 21-month-old sire boasted P8 and rib fat measurements of nine and six millimetres respectively with a scrotal circumference of 41cm increasing his appeal.
Mrs Vinicombe said the bull’s fat scans stood out as offering real benefits to their Charolais breeding operation.
“We finish bullocks and send them straight to Teys at Wagga and they’re always pleased with the way the cattle cut up,” she said.
“We can’t buy bulls of this standard in New South Wales. We’re looking to produce calves with meat and bone and that’s what Ayr offers us.”
The Vinicombe family purchased an additional two bulls at the sale for $10,000 and $6000 taking their average purchase price to $13,333.
At just 19 months of age lot 57, Ayr Isidor’s Fulham, sold for the second top price of $20,000 to Timor Grazing, Emerald.
The New South Wales buyer contingent consisted of seven Casino bidders while Dorrigo also attracted buyer interest with two registered bidders.
Volume buyers provided strong support with Talki Station, Clermont, taking home seven bulls for an average price of $4571. Geoff Yates, Casino, also bought a total of seven sires for an average price of $4142.
Glenample Grazing, Moura, picked up six bulls for a gross of $50,000 while the Gear family, Bollier Park, Kandanga, left the bidding stand with five bulls totalling $23,500.
Ayr Charolais stud principle David Cass said the 2016 sale represented the highest average ever achieved by the stud at their on-property sale.
“It’s great to see this many bulls attract such strong support and we’re extremely pleased with this result,” he said.
“It makes the hard work worthwhile when they all sell and sell well.”
