An extraordinary general meeting of the prominent breed society will be held in Armidale on December 1 to consider 12 resolutions to remove directors.
It has been brought on by widespread frustration among members over big financial losses and the belief information has not been forthcoming from the board.
Quirindi breeder Bruce Gunning, Emu Holes Herefords, who was elected to the board in May last year, has just issued a statement to members saying he had pointed out to other directors, and also members, the “serious financial state” of Herefords Australia.
He said he had been denied access to financial records of HA and its branded beef product.
“I thought this was a strange and disturbing response for trying to find out where your money was spent,” Mr Gunning said in the statement.
Mr Gunning believes the board should consist of breeders with business skills as well as breeders with practical skills.
His statement said the need for an independent review, which was currently taking place as requested by the organisation’s new chief executive officer, was evidence of the fact the collective know-how to deliver the restructure desperately needed was not there.
“It is now up to the members to decide if the current board has the will to adopt and embrace the findings of the independent review to run a more cohesive, transparent and responsible company,” he said.
Mr Gunning opted not to make no further comment on the issue ‘in respect to the breed’.
