App launch
PROFARMER, together with WA-based Planfarm Marketing have launched a new grain price discovery app.
SalesMate is designed to allow farmers to assess the core three decisions surrounding marketing their grain – price, production and propensity to sell.
The free download uses a live feed of current prices and decile values based on 5 years of historical price information.
Each user enters their estimated or actual production, and selects their propensity to sell from very conservative to very aggressive.
CIMMYT award
The Chinese State Council has named the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) winner of its International Science and Technology Cooperation Award for collaborative work leading to improved scientist training, maize and wheat production.
The international collaboration award recognizes the contribution of foreign scientists, engineers, experts and organizations to China’s development.
“This is a very high level award recognizing the significant impact our collaborative efforts have made on agricultural productivity in China,” said Dan Jeffers, CIMMYT maize breeder based in Yunnan.
Clear canola update
THE CLEAR Grain Exchange is now offering canola contracts in line with Australian Oilseeds Federation (AOF) standards.
Previously, Clear only offered flat price contracts, however it now offers the industry standard premiums and discounts based on oil content.
The standard oil content is 42pc and premiums are paid for loads with oil levels higher and discounts to those with oil below that mark.
Clear officials said the change was made due to customer requests.
Chinese project
A new maize and wheat research centre in China’s Yellow River Valley will serve as a top-level international resource facility for collaborative research and training.
The centre will be operated between the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and Henan Agricultural University (HAU.)
It will be located at the Henan Agricultural University and funded by the province of Henan.
CIMMYT will recruit four senior-level scientists in genomic-bioinformatics and physiology-crop management and up to eight locally recruited junior scientists.
