The sale consisted of 130 steers, 35 cows and calves, 20 joined females and 120 heifers, which was one of the smallest yardings held at this centre for many years.
“This reflects on the low numbers of cattle being farmed in the area and also evident at other market centres,” said Kyneton agent Keiran McGrath, McGrath Rodwells Livestock.
(The small sale) reflects the low numbers of cattle being farmed in the area and also evident at other market centres.
Demand for all classes he said was bouyant, with buyers keen to purchase before the spring flush of grass.
Cows and calves were sold $10 to $30 per outfit dearer, joined females met firm rates while heifers were sold at firm to dearer depending on breeding.
The yard of steers meet with keener inquiry to sell $20 to $50 a head dearer.
Buyers attended the sale from Ararat, Ballarat, Bendigo, Euroa and Pakenham and competed with strong local demand, two feedlot orders plus two wholesale meat buyers with most going home empty handed.
