Yamaha Motor Australia/NZ has a long history of utility vehicle product development and farm safety. This began in 1973 when factory engineers visited Queensland to discover the needs of local farmers, resulting in the world’s first AG bike.
As well as product development, farm safety has always been a key issue, with YMA/NZ introducing the ATV Safety Institute in 2003 to ensure the safe operation of utility vehicles.
Yamaha marketing supervisor Lance Turnley said Yamaha is a Registered Training Office and is recognised as a leader in ATV and SSV training.
“Yamaha has recently expanded its operations and now has certified trainers nationwide working to bring ATV and SSV skills training to farmers, their workers and their families,” he said.
That focus on safety and knowledge of local farmer requirements has led to the release of the Shark ATV Drak, “the world’s first fully certified ATV/SSV helmet”.
“Until now, lightweight utility helmets have offered minimal protection, aren’t rated for high speeds and aren’t approved for road use.”
“Certified helmets don’t take farmer requirements into account, tend to be too heavy, have poor ventilation, and designs which make it difficult to hear cattle.
“Faced between a choice of minimal protection or unsuitable headwear – many farmers currently choose to not wear a helmet.”
He said YMA/NZ and industry partners are promoting ATV and ROV safety through guidelines that promote training, protective clothing and the “Wear It or Park It” approved safety helmet campaign.
To help spread the message Yamaha enlisted country singer Lee Kernaghan to promote the new Shark helmet and the industry’s five-star safety message:
- Select the most suitable vehicle
- Protect yourself by wearing a helmet and protective gear, ensure you are physically fit and never operate a vehicle intoxicated
- Be trained in techniques and strategies for safe riding
- Never allow children on adult size ATVs or SSVs
- Follow the manufactures recommendations
Training helps users understand the features and limitations of each vehicle and allows riders to choose the most suitable model for the required tasks.
Yamaha has a wide range of ATVs and SSVs to meet the needs of farmers across the country and in the lead up to Beef Australia 2018 will be offering a range of factory bonuses that will get you on or in the right Yamaha.
