Tansey Polocrosse Club has galloped to the rescue by taking on the hosting duties of the first South East Zone carnival to be held this weekend.
The carnival, originally to be hosted by Clifton Polocrosse Club who had to withdraw, is an important one on the calendar due to it being a multi horse event. This means riders can ride more than one horse over the weekend, which is vital to test how horses are going in the leadup to the Barastoc Interstate Series and Shell Cup Club Carnival to be held in Warwick from 4th to 6th May. The games at Tansey will be action packed as players go head to head to challenge their horses, making great viewing for spectators.
Tansey Polocrosse Club cemented its reputation as one of the best polocrosse club’s in Australia in 2017 by dominating at carnivals throughout Queensland and across Australia.
Their dedication to training for a successful result has seen Tansey Polocrosse Club steadily growing in numbers to more than 100 members in 2017. It has also achieved representative success at a State and National level over the past few years and 2018 is no different with many Club members selected to wear Maroon or Green and Gold.
Five Club Members Trent Collins, Beth Hafey, Sydnee Johnson, Tom O’Neill and Lauren Sillitoe makeup a large part of the seven Queenslanders named in the Australian Squad to compete for a spot on the National Team. This past weekend, they travelled to Albury, New South Wales to showcase their riding and racquet skills to vie for a place on the 2018 Australian Team to be announced later this month.
The team will compete against Zambia later in the year and be the basis for Australia’s World Cup team for 2019. Many of these representative players will take to the field this weekend at Tansey’s home carnival in what is sure to be a battle of horse and rider against other clubs who want to prove their value for future selections. Tansey’s traditional rivals from South East Queensland, Warwick and Cunningham Polocrosse Clubs will be out to start the season with a win so play will be hard and fast.
Polocrosse is a fast paced team sport played on horseback. It combines the speed of polo, the strategy of netball, the toughness of rugby and AFL and the ball handling of lacrosse.
