It was an emotional day for the Dobson family at their Wararba Park Poll Hereford complete female dispersal sale.
A large number of New South Wales buyers joined with a strong panel of Queensland cattleman in attending the sale on Monday.
Overall the sale, held at Sandalwood Sales Complex near Meandarra, averaged a total of $3960 for a total of 143 head female cattle sold.
The stud female dispersal sale started strongly with lot 1 Wararba Park Charm J99 (P) and a classy heifer calf at foot. The cow and calf sold locally to Callaway Poll Hereford Stud, Irvingdale for $7000 and was running with Kidman Advancement and Wararba Park Kansas bulls plus Pregnancy Tested In Calf at the end of March.
Lot 2 Wararba Park Victoria J96 (TW) (P) with a heifer calf at foot by T Legacy bull and also sold for $7000 to Glenlyon Rural Holding, Clifton. The cow is joined to Bowen Fonz bull.
A total of 59 bid cards were registered to purchase during the sale.
The Poll Hereford cows and calves averaged $4352 for 105 head sold during the sale.
The top price of the sale was Lot 34 Wararba Park Satin Lady H155 (P) with a quality heifer calf at foot by Valma High Power bull who sold to $16,000. The cow was sired by Tycolah Hell Bent bull out of Wararba Park Satin Lady W55 (P) cow.
Second top price of the sale was Lot 10 Wararba Park Jessie J93 (P) cow with a bull calf at foot by sire Tycolah Legacy and sold to $13,000 to Crowley family, Barraba, NSW.
Third top price of the sale was Lot 44 Wararba Park Miss Belle H181 (P) with a heifer calf at foot by Wararba Park Kansas bull and sold for $9500 also to the Crowley family. The 5-year-old cow was sired by Merawah Xcite C53 (P) bull and is PTIC to Kerlson Pines Logan bull or Wararba Park Kansas bull.
Lot 194 in the dispersal sale, Wararba Park Miss Belle N445 (P) heifer, was kindly donated by the Dobson family to raise money for the LifeFlight Foundation.
“We have donated this heifer as a sincere thank you for assisting our little Isabelle when she had an accident,” Keith Dobson said.
The charity heifer topped the unjoined female section of the sale and sold for $2750 to Reevesdale Poll Herefords, Glen Clare, Gum Flat, NSW.
The joined heifers averaged $3045 during the sale.
Top priced joined heifer was Wararba Park Jessie M045 (P) who sold for $5000 to Bowen Downs Poll Herefords, Meandarra. The 18-month-old heifer was sired by Valma High Power and out of Wararba Park Jessie H183 (P) cow. The Jessie heifer is also joined to Callaway WRL Mississippi bull.
Two lots sold to $9000 during the sale with Wararba Park Empress H239 (P) cow and Wararba Park Rosella G208 (P) cow. The Empress cow had a 6-month-old heifer calf at foot by W.P Kansas and was bought by Swanvale Herefords, Tamworth, NSW. The Rosella cow had a 5-month-old bull calf at foot also by W.P Kansas and sold to the Coward family, Hernani, NSW.
The unjoined heifers averaged $2000 during the sale.
The final on-property bull sale will be held by the Dobson family’s Wararba Park Poll Hereford Stud on September 3 with 50 bulls expected to be catalogued.
