MEAT and Livestock Australia (MLA) chairman Rob Anderson has been overlooked for reselection to the organisation’s leadership.
MLA’s board selection committee made a surprising move not to endorse Mr Anderson for re-appointment.
A new chairman will be appointed by board members at the MLA’s annual general meeting this year.
Board appointments are for a maximum of three years, and the MLA constitution requires three directors to retire each year.
The interview process of candidates for election to the MLA board is ongoing.
MLA said it will advise members of the nominated candidates when the selection process is complete.
According to the board, a succession plan is in place and “until that handover, Mr Anderson will remain Chair of the Board”.
Mr Anderson, a beef farmer at “Garrawilla”, Mullaley, is a former NSW Farmers vice president.
Upon taking leadership of the board in November 2011, Mr Anderson said: “My vision is to ensure that MLA continues as the meat industry’s marketing and development service provider; we want to focus on that and not get involved in political issues”.
