A three-year-old Ayrshire, from Gippsland, has followed up its success in the breed’s Victorian Cow of the Year awards, to be the first Ayrshire to win an interbreed award at International Dairy Week.
The cow had earlier won the grand champion Ayrshire and champion intermediate Ayrshire titles.
Rockvale Burdette Prim, Bluegum Park, Yarragon, Victoria, is owned by Jake Mathews and Christi Hadfield, who farm with Jake's mother Anthea Day and step-father Trevor Saunders, at Bluegum Park, Shady Creek, Victoria.
Ms Hadfield said the family milked 700 cows.
From a Burdette sire, out of Rockvale Sakic Prim 2, the cow was bought at the Rockvale dispersal sale in 2015 by Jake and Christi as an in-calf heifer.
Ms Day said the cow was one of their top production-index Ayrshires.
"She's a really good production cow, a good looking cow," she said.
Ayrshires make up 100 cows in the predominantly Jersey herd.
Ms Day said the family looked to breed well-balanced, good conformation cows that could get in calf every year.
The Ayrshires were a nice, quiet efficient breed that helped the commercial operation maximise production per hectare.
"Big is not necessarily better for us," she said.
It was a huge honour to win the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria interbreed award.
The Jersey intermediate champion Brookbora Valentino Fair Mavis, shown by Robert and Sandra Bacon, Tennyson, Vic, was reserve champion intermediate.
