GOLDEN North has made a golden step towards its future with their product scooping new prospective customers.
The Laura-based business today packed its first shipment of icecream bound for Chinese markets.
Golden North general manager Peter Adamo said the order was the first in what is expected to become a regular market.
“It’s taken about 12 months to get to this position for this container,” Mr Adamo said.
Mr Adamo said this new market would help to smooth out what could be a very seasonal product.
“It can assist with our winter production when our market usually drops by half,” he said.
“This will be more sustainable going forward.”
He said this would have benefits for the Mid North region, with dairyfarmers expected to profit, while the casual labour force could have more confidence.
The order includes vanilla and honeycomb Giant Twins, nine flavours of 5 litre tubs, four flavours of 2L tubs, 125 millilitre vanilla cups and 500ml vanilla bean and pistachio tubs.
This equates to 20,598L of icecream, or 168,284 serves.
These have been packed in a 12-metre cold container on 40 pallets.
Exporter John Zhang estimates the demand is enough for this order to triple within a few months.
The product will be at sea for the next few weeks before it arrives in China where they have a range of markets lined up including supermarkets, home delivery, cafes and restaurants and scoop shops.
