THE Easter bunny may not have made an appearance at the Flinton Races but this little 100-year strong racing tradition made one heck of a footprint on the holiday weekend.
Held on Flinton Station, the annual Easter Saturday races saw a record crowd of 1000 punters attend from all over the state, including a group of 11 Brisbane-based blokes who travelled out over 400km to celebrate a bucks party, in true-blue bush style.
A balmy Autumn day set the scene for plenty of racing, and not just the equine kind.
Flinton’s foot races are famous in the district, with many boys and girls stripping their races attire to join in the sprint.
Complete with a five-race program, over 50 horses entered, plenty of fabulous fashion and fireworks on dusk, the race day proved yet another resounding success with its punters.
A live band belted out tunes until late and all those dedicated racegoers kept the dancefloor humming until the end.
The Flinton Race Club was axed by Queensland Racing in recent years but thanks to overwhelming support from local businesses, this now self-funded race day has survived through the odds with record nominations and crowd numbers.
Queensland Country Life would not have missed this classic day of bush racing for anything.
