EASY care Merino ewes raising a lamb and cutting an optimum amount of stylish wool for the Stuckey family at “Corella”, Condobolin are the winners of the 2015 Central Western Merino Ewe Competition.
This is the 16th annual fixture that combines the winning and runner-up flocks of three maiden ewe contests of Parkes, Trundle’s Ted Little, Condobolin’s Don Brown.
Judges from Western Australia, Stuart Rintoul, Dongiemon and Tilba Tilba studs, Williams, and Rod Norrish of Angenup stud, Kojonup, agreed the “Corella flock were the “tops” and superior in type and wool production to the two other winning flocks.
The flock based originally on Willandra blood and for the past five years Belswick, is classed by Chris Bowman, Hay, who classed out 45 per cent of the 2013 ewe drop from a 100pc lambing that year.
Runner-up flock winner was “The Kars”, flock operated by brothers, Chris and Greg Burke, Yarrabandai.
This flock recorded a 112pc lambing in 2013 and is based on Bundemar blood and classed by Tom Kirk, Condobolin.
