IT’S A LONG way from the south-west corner of Georgia, deep in America’s south, to Longerenong, site of the Wimmera Machinery Field Days.
But that was the journey made by representatives of machinery maker Lewis Carter Machinery, which exhibited at this year’s field days.
David Sandlin and Grant Bruner, pictured, had a stand at the field days as part of a whirlwind trip to Australia.
LCM is no stranger to the Australian market, exporting specialty equipment here since 1975.
On the broadacre front, they are most involved in manufacturing seed cleaning equipment.
“We can make seed cleaners that can clean to any specifications, whether you want a seed grade or a food grade product,” Mr Sandlin said.
Aside from that, Mr Bruner said LCM had been busy in Australia constructing factory equipment for the soon to open Olam Australia almond processing plant at Carwarp, south of Mildura.
He said there were many differences between the broadacre farms of the Wimmera and the tightly held agriculture of Georgia.
“We do a lot of double cropping, soybeans and corn are very popular, as is cotton, and there is a lot more rainfall, especially over the summer period.
“This area here would have a lot more in common with our Prairie states – it’s certainly been an eye-opener seeing how things are done here.”
